Can I use English in Tallinn?

English is the most widely known foreign language in Tallinn, although older people are more likely to speak German. In most establishments in the tourist industry it is possible to use English, Finnish, Russian and German.

Which currency can be used in Tallinn/Estonia?

The Estonian kroon (EEK) is the only legal tender. It is not possible to pay with foreign currencies (euros, dollars, etc.). It is, however, possible to use credit cards, and Visa and Mastercard are accepted at most accommodation and dining establishments as well as in shops.

How much do taxis cost?

Taxi companies in Tallinn do not apply a uniform tariff, therefore your fare will depend upon the taxi company you choose and the distance travelled. Where can I purchase public transport tickets?

Tickets can be bought from newspaper kiosks or from the driver. A single ticket from a kiosk costs 13 EEK and a pack of ten costs 90 EEK. A single ticket from the driver costs 20 EEK and exact change should be used; coins will not be accepted. A ticket for an express bus is more expensive - from a kiosk it costs 18 EEK and from the driver 25 EEK. Kiosks also sell a 24hr travel card for 55 EEK and a 72hr travel card for 100 EEK. When are shops and shopping centres open in Tallinn?

The major shopping centres are generally open from 10 am until 9 pm daily. Smaller shops are open on weekdays 10 am – 7 pm, Saturdays 10 am – 5 pm and are closed on Sundays and public holidays.
